Alison Hamilton, PhD, MPH
Alison Hamilton, Ph.D., M.P.H., is a VA Research Career Scientist and Chief Officer of Implementation and Policy at the VA Center for the Study of Healthcare Innovation, Implementation & Policy at the Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System, and a Professor-in-Residence in the Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences at UCLA. She is a medical anthropologist and health services researcher, with specific training and expertise in implementation science, women’s health, mental health, qualitative methods, evaluation research, public health, and community health sciences. She has been conducting implementation research for over 20 years, in women’s health, mental health, primary care, and genetics. Dr. Hamilton’s research portfolio focuses on improving health services for vulnerable populations by understanding people’s lived experiences and implementing evidence-based and evidence-informed practices in contextually and theoretically informed ways. At VA, she directs the VA EMPOWER Quality Enhancement Research Initiative (QUERI), focused on using implementation science to improve women Veterans’ engagement in preventive evidence-based care models, and she co-leads the VA HSR&D Women’s Health Research Network, with a focus on multilevel stakeholder engagement in research. At UCLA, Dr. Hamilton directs the NIMH-funded UCLA Rapid, Rigorous, and Relevant Implementation Science Hub, and she is a multiple PI of an NHLBI-funded implementation study of enhancing readiness to address cardiovascular risk and trauma among ethnic minority individuals living with HIV. She was a fellow in the NIMH/VA Implementation Research Institute (IRI), and she is an Associate Editor for Implementation Science Communications, and serves on the Editorial Boards of Implementation Science, Implementation Research and Practice, and Women’s Health Issues. She also serves as faculty for the NIH/VA Institute for Implementation Science Scholars (IS-2).
