November 9, 2022

12:00 pm / 1:30 pm Los Angeles

Dear Colleagues – CHIPTS in collaboration with our partners at Watts Healthcare Corporation, Los Angeles Family AIDS Network, and Dignity and Power Now, etc. are pleased to invite you to a virtual seminar entitled “Building the Resistance: The Impact of Systemic Racism and Mass Incarceration on HIV in Los Angeles County” on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, from 12:00 PM – 1:30 PM PT. Find more information below and attached.

This session is the first of a series of meetings planned to address the impact of mass incarceration on HIV by bringing together providers, activists, researchers and other stakeholders to discuss overlapping concerns and goals in the areas of HIV, racial justice, the criminal legal system, and re-entry services. The objectives of this seminar are to:

  • Describe how incarceration and interactions with law enforcement impact HIV/STI acquisition risk and treatment engagement.
  • Develop recommendations for improving partnerships and service integration in order to increase HIV/STI prevention, testing, and treatment engagement among people impacted by the criminal legal system and reduce recidivism and improve diversion services for those affected by HIV.
  • Identify policy options and policy research priorities at the intersection of HIV and the criminal legal system.

We welcome attendees interested in prioritizing mass incarceration as an area of necessary focus for ending the HIV epidemic in Los Angeles to attend – including CBO staff, social services providers, HIV providers, mental health and substance use providers and academic researchers.
