The trials attempt to determine the impact of FemAALES & HARRP on HIV risk factors and psychosocial outcomes including, the self-efficacy for safer sex negotiation, discussions with partners regarding HIV/STI testing, and number os sex partners.
Oral presentation by Ian Holloway that discusses the impact of smartphone apps, like Grindr, to present opportunities and discreet targeted outreach to young men who have sex with men. Some helpful suggestions through the use of technology is to allow young men to find nearby testing centers and clinical settings.
This factsheet , entitled HIV Among Gay and Bisexual Men explains how as a group, gay, bisexual, and other MSM have an increased chance of being exposed to HIV because of the large number of MSM living with HIV. Results of HIV testing conducted in 21 cities indicated that 19% of MSM tested in 2008 were HIV-positive and that HIV prevalence increased with increasing age and decreased with increasing education and income. Men aged 40 years and older were more likely than men aged 18–39 to have HIV.
The HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis Initiative (iPrEx) was a multinational randomized controlled study of HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) in 2,499 HIV-negative men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender women who have sex with men. The trial examined the efficacy of Truvada (a fixed dose combination of 2 antiretroviral medications: FTC and Tenofovir) taken every day to prevent HIV infection.
