Around the globe, HIV continues to have a profound impact on children, adults and families. As the pandemic moves into its third decade, one of the most devastating aspects of HIV disease is its growing impact on families. When a person is infected with the virus, an entire family unit is impacted.

CHIPTS investigators are creating new partnerships to help prevent HIV among vulnerable populations, both in the United States and throughout the world. Our interventions provide support and enhance the capacity of individuals living with HIV, their families, and those affected by this disease to respond to the AIDS crisis with courage, hope, and tools to manage their lives, in light of the virus.

It is the social and economic circumstances of marginalized and poor communities in the United States, Africa and Asia that contribute to individuals' vulnerability to HIV infection and intensify its impact.

Just as the virus depletes the human body of its natural defenses, it can also deplete families and communities of the assets and social structures necessary for successful prevention and provision of care for individuals living with HIV.

CHIPTS aims to leverage world class science to combat HIV globally, in partnership with communities impacted by the pandemic; HIV continues to test our strength and our will. On World AIDS Day, we re-commit ourselves to bring an end to the AIDS pandemic.
