The URICA consists of 32 items assessing various attitudes and behaviors that correspond to the four stages of change (i.e., precontemplation,
contemplation, action, and maintenance). There are eight Likert-type items per stage, each ranging from 1 to 5, with higher scores indicating greater endorsement of particular attitudes or behaviors. Total subscale scores range from 8 to 40; however, average subscale scores, which range from 1 to 5, are usually reported.
