The Treatment Services Core promotes research in the area of HIV-related health and mental health services that enhances the understanding of the complex delivery systems for people at risk or infected by HIV. It supports innovative research to make these systems more effective at providing accessible, high quality, and cost-efficient prevention and care.
The particular focus of the Services Core is on the structural factors associated with HIV-related health and mental health prevention and treatment. Examples of these are the organization and delivery of services, the accessibility of the services to clients, structural barriers to services, the density of available services in a geographical area, and funding streams for services. The Services Core supports research on the development of comprehensive, coordinated, and integrated HIV systems of prevention and treatment. It also supports research on provider-level interventions at health and mental health service settings, community clinics, and community based organizations working on HIV prevention and treatment. It establishes and maintains partnerships with service providers, governmental agencies, and academic researchers in order to identify research needs and opportunities that benefit all of the collaborating research partners. The Services Core is particularly interested in research projects that address disparities in HIV-related prevention or treatment services among different groups in society, whether defined by ethnicity, gender or other sociodemographic characteristics. In addition, the Services Core is interested in promoting research that examines HIV-related services for people with other co-morbid conditions, such as mental illness or substance abuse.
