Dr. Sharon Younkin’s career focus encompasses community/public health, community campus partnerships, psychology, and medical education. She has expertise in developing and sustaining community university partnerships aimed at addressing pressing public health issues and designing community based interventions to address community identified needs, most especially in vulnerable neighborhoods. In addition to researching, designing and delivering community health programs, she has been responsible for funding these initiatives through grant writing and developing relationships with donors and philanthropic organizations. Dr. Younkin’s community health interventions have utilized a community based participatory research and evaluation model, including the use of Photovoice as a methodology. Many of these projects have been accepted for presentation at national and international conferences and/or publication. Dr. Younkin has served as a grant reviewer for HRSA, the American Public Health Association’s community based health committee, Campus Compact, and the Morgridge Center for Public Service. In addition to her professional work, Dr. Younkin has served on a number of Boards of Directors, including one 6-year term as Board President for the Allied Wellness Center.
