HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) for Youth

Meeting Description:
The implementation of HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) is underway, with interim recommendations for its use with men who have sex with men (MSM) already available from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This talk with guest presenter Dr. Sybil Hosek will explore how youth fit into the picture and describe current research related to youth and PrEP.
This webinar is part of the “Third Thursdays Webinar Series,” which is designed by SYPP Center for HIV prevention providers serving youth, particularly young gay men and transgender youth of color.
After this webinar, you will be able to:

  1. Describe the basics of PrEP science and the need for biomedical prevention methods for youth in the US
  2. Name a completed and/or planned PrEP study geared toward youth
  3. Discuss issues of implementing PrEP with youth

Housed at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, SYPP Center provides capacity building assistance (CBA) services to communities seeking to prevent HIV/AIDS among youth, with an emphasis on young gay men and transgender youth of color. SYPP Center offers a framework for communities to create sustainable structural changes and build healthy community coalitions that respond to local needs.

This project is supported by Cooperative Agreement Number 5U65PS001708-04 from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Its contents are solely the responsibility of the authors and do not necessarily represent the official views of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
