The HIV/AIDS community has always cared for one another, even in times when others – including medical professionals and support providers — turned us away due to stigma and fear.Today, care challenges remain – with more people with HIV surviving and thriving into our senior years, we are part of growing population who will need quality and affordable services to allow us to stay healthy and live with dignity. Many of us are caring for aging parents, partners with health challenges or disabilities, and/or are the backbone for the members of our families who need care and support.
In addition, many people living with HIV are working under challenging conditions, or eager to go to work if we can benefit from appropriate job protections. Good jobs in in-home services and support could benefit us!Join us for a timely and intensive conversation about the role of the HIV/AIDS community in an exciting new campaign to demand better services for both the providers and recipients of in-home services and support (“home care”).
We will talk with the advocates speaking out as and for seniors living with HIV, leaders of the Caring Across Generations campaign, hear about the challenges faced by HIV+ people who are working in home care, and discuss how the HIV PJA Economic Justice Working Group will be a part of this important effort.
