Research & Interest
Dr. Brooks is currently working on a collaborative research study with the Los Angeles County Office of AIDS Programs and Policy (OAPP) to analyze data gathered from a follow-back study to the 1999 Los Angeles County Health Survey. Information collected in the follow-back study will help inform HIV prevention efforts in Los Angeles County.
Dr. Brooks is also currently working on a collaborative project between CHIPTS and AIDS Project Los Angeles (APLA). This is a capacity building project funded by the Los Angeles County OAPP to provide extensive program evaluation training to community-based AIDS service organizations, members of HIV planning bodies (e.g., HIV commission on health services), and staff at OAPP.
Dr. Brooks was formerly the Research and Evaluation Specialist at AIDS Project Los Angeles (APLA), the largest AIDS social service organization in Los Angles. He was responsible for evaluating all programs of the agency as well as conducting primary research on current issues relevant to the agency's client population. One of the more salient issues Dr. Brooks began to research was returning to work among persons living with HIV/AIDS. His research in this area expanded beyond APLA and he served as Co-Investigator (with Dr. David Martin) on a countywide study of employment issues affecting persons living with HIV/AIDS. He will continue his work in this area as part of his research activities with CHIPTS.
