Lee E. Klosinski, Ph.D.
 


Research & Interest

Dr. Klosinski is the new Co-Director of the Development Core for CHIPTS. This Core advances science through the development of investigators mentored in the highest standards of learning and research. Three activities  Pilot Program Support, Investigator Professional Development, and Partner Capacity-Building – drive this Core’s commitment to the development of high quality, meaningful science. The Pilot Program promotes cutting edge research by new and junior investigators by providing them with resources to mount innovative feasibility studies. New investigators can receive multidisciplinary peer review and feedback of their manuscripts and proposals, training in research design, data collection, research ethics and the responsible conduct of research through the Core’s Professional Development activities . The Core also maintains a Capacity-Building component that provides community, national and international partners with research-related technical assistance and training, assist investigators in building networks and provides for broad dissemination of research findings.

In addition to his activities with CHIPTS, Dr. Klosinski is also the Deputy Director of the Center for Community Health at the University of California, Los Angeles Semel Institute for Human Behavior and Neuroscience. He directs the development efforts as well as planning and managing a diverse portfolio of research grants. The mission of the Center for Community Health is to advance the understanding of and to improve the health, development, and quality of life for children and adults in high-risk situations. The Center conducts research that crosses three significant areas impacting children and adults in high-risk situations: HIV, mental health, and chronic illness.

Dr. Klosinski is a former Director of Programs at AIDS Project Los Angeles (APLA), where he directed the agency’s Education, Client Services and Media and Marketing Divisions and Volunteer Resources and Information Systems programs.

His research interests have included the adaptation of evidence-based interventions targeting young adults living with HIV, the return to work and employment issues of people living with HIV, the ecology of commercial sex venues, and other behavioral risk factors for HIV infection. In addition to his administrative responsibilities, Dr. Klosinski has served as the Project Director for several activities, including the design and build-out of the APLA West service site in Fairfax Avenue, the publication Take Control, the APLA client self-care manual, and management of the process through which APLA’s current five-year strategic plan was developed and implemented.

He has published in AIDS Education and Prevention, the Journal of the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome, and the Journal of Homosexuality.

Dr. Klosinski is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame. He received his doctoral degree in religion from Claremont Graduate University after defending a dissertation examining the role of commensality in the social formation of early Christianity.
