Eric G. Bing, M.D., Ph.D., M.P.H.

Dr. Bing is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science. He received his M.D. from Harvard Medical School and trained as a psychiatrist at the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute. He received his M.P.H. in Epidemiology at the UCLA School of Public Health. Dr. Bing's research primarily focuses on developing and evaluating interventions to improve health care and health outcomes for disadvantaged populations, particularly those affected by HIV, mental illness, and/or alcohol and drug problems.

Dr. Bing is the Co-Director of CHIPTS as well as the Co-Director of the CHIPTS Prevention and Treatment Services Core. He is also the Director of the NIAAA-funded Collaborative Alcohol Research at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science, where he oversees the entire Center as well as four pilot projects focusing on alcohol and its relationship to HIV, alcohol treatment services, and prenatal alcohol exposure. Dr. Bing is the founder and director of SPECTRUM Community Services and Research, a Charles R. Drew University based community, clinical, and research center. The focus of the center is to develop and evaluate innovative health services for underserved communities through collaborative relationships among service providers, researchers, and community advocates. SPECTRUM has a wide range of clinical and community research programs which focus on Los Angeles county- and city-supported HIV mental health services, HIV peer support, and HIV medication adherence support. In addition, SPECTRUM runs a HRSA-funded Special Project of Nation Signficance which focuses on improving integration and use of services for African Americans with HIV, mental illness, and alcohol and drug problems.

In addition to his professional roles, Dr. Bing volunteers as the Director of Evaluation Services for the Los Angeles Second Supervisorial District HIV Advisory Committee and is on the Board of Directors for AIDS Project Los Angeles.
