The Future Direction of Male Circumcision in HIV Prevention
The Center for HIV Identification, Prevention, and Treatment Services (CHIPTS) hosted a working conference titled, The Future Direction of Male Circumcision in HIV Prevention, held November 29-30, 2007 in Los Angeles, California, with support from the National Institute of Mental Health. The goal of the conference was to bring together global stakeholders to address challenges and identify opportunities associated with implementing male circumcision as part of a comprehensive global HIV prevention strategy.
The conference included presentations by leading experts in the area of male circumcision and its role in HIV prevention. The presentations were followed by a series of working groups charged to address specific challenges and/or opportunities related to implementing male circumcision. Day two of the conference consisted of report backs from the working groups and a larger group discussion. A monograph summarizing the outcomes of the work groups will be developed and distributed in the coming months.
